When it comes to announcing a new addition to the family, it’s no longer enough to ring family and friends. This is especially true if you are a celebrity.

Thanks to Instagram, Twitter and Facebook, elaborate birth announcements are now in vogue. Once news breaks that a certain A-lister has popped, fans do a virtual race to said celebrity’s social media platforms in the hope of catching a glimpse of the newborn.

Maybe they will catch a flash of a teeny-tiny foot or finger. Even better, a heart-warming family pic! What is the baby’s name? Whose nose does he or she have? Do they have what it takes to follow in their famous parent’s footsteps? Fans hope to get their answers by scrutinising the social media posts.

#1 Beyoncé

When it comes to birth announcements, or anything else in life, nobody does it better ― or bigger ― than Queen Bey. On 14 July this year, the 36-year-old superstar, already mum to Blue Ivy, 5, broke the Internet when she “Instagrammed” a picture of her newborn twins, Sir and Rumi. In the picture she captioned simply, “Sir Carter and Rumi 1 month today,” a semi-nude Mrs Jay Z expertly cradled her twins while swathed in a floral fabric and rocking a blue veil. In typical Beyoncé OTT style, the picture (which echoed her pregnancy announcement post) captured the Formation singer posing beneath a floral arch against an ocean backdrop. Needless to say, the image, which ended weeks of speculation over the possible arrival of the Carter twins, was met with rapturous glee and went viral. (Photo: Beyoncé Instagram)

#2 Jamie Yeo

Singapore radio personality Jamie Yeo’s social media feed has been blowing up this year with major back-to-back announcements. A surprise marriage and pregnancy revelation, with baby Luke’s arrival not only after! The Gold 90.5 radio presenter announced her little man’s arrival on Instagram almost a month after his birth on September 24, 2017. The little guy was early at 35 weeks and was under observation in the NICU. In a touching family picture, which included her new husband, Rupert, 38, Yeo gives a special shout-out to thank the doctors and nurses at SGH where she had given birth. In her post, she added, “Now we’re finally looking forward to bonding time at home for all the family. Thanks in advance for all the well-wishes and apologies if we don’t get back to you all as we adjust to sleep deprivation and numerous diaper changes!!”. Yeo, 40, also has a 7-year-old daughter, Alysia, from her second marriage to Thorsten Nolte. (Photo: Jamie Yeo Instagram)

#3 Zoe Saldana

The notoriously private Zoe Saldana, 39, must enjoy keeping her adoring fans on their toes, judging from how she’s chosen to debut her babies. Best known for her role in the blockbuster movie Avatar, the actress w kick-started 2015 by “tweeting” about her twin boys’, Cy and Bowie’s arrival. The cute photo, which showed two identical baby bottles next to plushies with pacifiers, came with the post, “Happy #2015! Starting our #NewYear with a fullhouse”. The Latina, who is married to artist Marco Perego, 38, makes it a point to never post pictures of her kids with visible faces. She has stayed true to her word, as she made a surprise announcement almost two years later when she posted a picture about her third baby in February 2017. Saldana, who didn’t seem to be pregnant prior to the Instagram post, didn’t offer any details on how her baby boy Zen was conceived. But she did post an aerial shot of her toddler twins playing with their new sibling, so all their faces are obscured. Well played, Saldana, well played! (Photo: Zoe Saldana Twitter and Instagram)

#4 Pink

It’s always nice to see rock chick Pink display her softer side, which usually happens when her kids are around her. The 38-year-old Grammy award-winning singer, whose real name is Alecia Beth Moore, welcomed her second child, Jameson Moon Hart, in December 2016. She posted a sweet Instagram picture which showed her looking really besotted with her little man. Married to professional motocross racer Carey Hart, 42, the couple also have a daughter, Willow Sage, 6. (Photo: Pink Instagram)

#5 Simon Cowell

Perpetual grump and resident American Idol “mean guy” Simon Cowell, 58, finally had good reason to crack a smile when his son Eric was born in February 2014. What was even more shocking was that the usually tight-lipped British music mogul wasn’t shy about admitting that he was a new father! Just two days after the little cherub entered the world, the proud papa plastered pictures of his heir all over Twitter. “I never knew how much love and pride I would feel,” Cowell tweeted, together with a super-sweet photo of father and son cuddling. #6 Serena Williams

Serena Williams, 36, accidentally revealed her pregnancy on social media, but the tennis champ was more than prepared when it came time to debut her bundle. Engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, the newly-minted mama took to Instagram two weeks after her darling daughter arrived to share an intimate shot of mum and bub enjoying some skin-to-skin contact. The photo, which has garnered more than a million likes (and counting) was captioned, “Meet Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. You have to check out link in bio for her amazing journey. Also check out my IG stories.” Only a few weeks old and already making a significant digital footprint…very impressive, little one! (Photo: Serena Williams Instagram)

#7 Joanne Peh

After a 16-hour labour, Singapore’s golden girl Joanne Peh welcomed her second child in April 2017, just four days before she turned 34. Fiercely protective of her children’s privacy, the actress has never revealed her older daughter’s name nor her face since her 2015 arrival. Indeed, her first Instagram post of her son only showed a side profile of the little man, nicknamed “qididi”, chilling out in mummy’s arms as his older sister, “babyqi”, who is mostly hidden, eyes him adoringly. “As I move into the second week of my confinement, my days are pretty much spent feeding every 2-3 hourly and catching up on sleep when both my kids are taking their afternoon naps. When I have a bit more energy, I do art with my older child,” writes the exhausted mum-of-two, who is married to actor Qi Yuwu, 40. (Photo: Joanne Peh Instagram)

#8 Chua Leelian

After a whirlwind romance and a surprise wedding, which was swiftly followed by an unplanned pregnancy, Love 97.2 radio DJ Chua Leelian debuted her firstborn in an Instagram post on 5 June 2017. #9 Max Loong

Following in the footsteps of other celebs who prefer to keep their kids on the down-low, Lion Mums star Max Loong, 37, initially kept his son Ryden Lynx Loong out of the limelight after he arrived in June 2017. Looks like the doting dad couldn’t resist showing off his cutie ― on September 2, he e-introduced his doe-eyed mini-me with a close-up shot of his son wrapped in a sea-green blanket. “We are proud to introduce to you.. our new light, our new life… our son Ryden Lynx Loong,” writes the Swiss-Chinese actor, who is married to actress-producer Sepideh Haftgoli, 36. Hollywood power pair Mila Kunis, 34, and Ashton Kutcher, 39, were more than happy to share first pics of their daughter following her birth in October 2014 ― but not before first playing a prank! In true Kutcher “Punk’d” fashion, the Kunis-Kutchers unveiled their baby’s picture along with five other babies. “Mila and I would like to welcome Wyatt Isabelle Kutcher to the world… Can you guess which one is ours, or does it really matter?,” wrote the first-time dad in his Instagram post. #11 Mark Zuckerberg

He couldn’t be less of a ladies’ man, but Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, 33, seems destined to be surrounded by super-strong (and really adorable) females for the rest of his life. Married to paediatrician Priscilla Chan, 32, the tech guru has been “caught” canoodling and cradling his two daughters ― August, 2 months, and Maxima, 1 ― all over, yep, you’ve guessed it, Facebook. Instead of the usual “meet my baby” spiel, Zuckerberg chose to introduce his girls to the world by capturing special moments. With Max, he was lying on the floor exchanging adoring looks, with the caption, “Full of joy with little Max.” With August, daddy and daughter were seen cuddling together on the sofa following the caption, “Baby cuddles are the best.” (Photo: Mark Zuckerberg Facebook)
